Belt Making: We will be having a workshop on how to make a 1 ½” or 1 ¼” basic belt with a simple stamped design. You will learn to size, stamp, stain and finish your own leather belt. Walk in with nothing, walk out with a completed belt– PLUS all the skills and tricks to complete one on your own!

Basic Intro to Carving Class: In this class, we will be using the basic seven tools to carve and stamp a beautiful floral design into leather. BASIC STITCHING CLASS 2/13: Class starts at 10:00AM. Class Time: Approximately 1hr.     COST: FREE

There are many ways to stitch your leather, for function, for decoration, or both! In this class, Heather will teach you the most basic stitch there is: the saddle stitch. Universal in its application, once you learn the saddle stitch you will be on your way being able to make just about anything. She will talk about the uses for the saddle stitch and the essential tools needed for stitching. Free class, bring yourself and any tools you may have for the occasion. Recommended Ages: 12+

 

BASIC DYEING CLASS 2/20: Class starts at 10:00AM. Class Time: Approximately 2hr.     COST: FREE

If you’re intimidated by dyeing leather, let our chemicals expert Luke give you his professional advice on where to begin. Learn the difference between the different types of dyes available for leather work as well as the appropriate ways to use them. But there is so much more to the treatment of leather than just dyeing, this class will introduce you to antiquing techniques, conditioners, finishes, resists, and edge treatment for the most professional look you can give any project. Beware, this may get a little messy so dress accordingly. Free class, just bring yourself!

This class is the first in the Armor Series by Jaimi Davis.  Join your local Tandy Associate for two days of Nerd creation!  We'll be making a black Single Shoulder Pauldron that will strap across your chest and around your arm.  Made of rugged 8/9oz leather, this piece will be custom fitted to you and ready for use in your LARP, Boffer Combat, Fantasy Gaming and Cosplaying fun!  A suggested tool list will be provided prior to class.  We will have some tools available for use, but they are limited and are therefore available on a first come first serve basis.

 

Day 1:  Punching Parts, Custom Fitting, Wet Molding, (Lunch Break if Needed), Dyeing

Day 2:  Finish Dyeing, Leather Shene, Assembly

Come join Brian Markin from Turn-2 Glove Repair and Conditioning and learn how to get your ball glove ready for the season. We will be holding 2 classes this day, one starting at 10 am and the second at 1 pm. Bring your own personal glove and learn the process to relace, and recondition it to extend the life of your glove or come learn on a loaner to practice if you want to learn the process without your own glove. 2/27/15: 10 am: Basic Carving Class

Jeff Reyers of JR Leather returns to teach the basic carving class. Come learn how to use the basic tools to make a beautiful floral project. You will learn the basics for transferring patterns, techniques of using the swivel knife, using the camouflage, pear shader, beveler, veiner, seeder, and a backgrounder craft tools and finally decorative cuts with the swivel knife. If you have tools, please feel free to bring them so you can refine your use of you own tools. If you do not have any, tools will be provided for you. This class will be $15. There will be a 3 person minimum and a 10 person maximum. So call and sign up before spots fill up.

Feb 13: Holster Class - Make your own custom holster.  This class does take longer than the average class.  It will probably last 4 hours.  You will make your own custom western style holster sized to fit your firearm.  Please bring your unloaded firearm to make a pattern from.  We will be checking to make sure they are unloaded before class starts.  If you have a knife for cutting leather or any stitching tools it will speed up the process as you will not have to share class use tools. Local leather crafter Mike Horn will be teaching the basics of carving and stamping into vegetable tanned leather. You will learn the Sheridan flower style. Expect to be learning expert tips and tricks until 3 pm or later. Beginners will learn how to complete a carving project from start to finish and get taught all the ins and outs in between. Tool Pouch:                   This class will teach you the basic skills needed to make a tool pouch.  Skills include the cutting of a paper pattern and how to transfer that over to your leather.  How to choose the best tool for cutting our your leather.  Other skills include how to set rivets and how to hand stitch using the two needle method.  You will also learn how to use our Eco-Flo products to dye the tool pouch in whatever color you want.  Class is limited to 8 students.  Cost is $20

Come in and create a natural vegetable tanned leather tote bag.  This class will use a single pattern and saddle stitching to create a handy bag with two straps.  The bag is created all from one piece which is then bent and sewn into place to create your tote bag (except the straps are separate and sewn on).

In this 2 week class you will be creating your own leather backpack.  You will learn all about cutting out a pattern, preparing leather for stitching, and sew with a saddle stitch.  This bag will be made out of a beautiful natural vegetable tanned leather that is milled so it is soft and flexible.

Wet Molded Case
Come in and learn how to use wet molding to create a small vegetable tanned leather case.  In this class you will be working from a pattern and using saddle stitching.  This class will also teach you how to put either a clasp, button stud, or lacing onto your case to secure it closed.

Class 1: You will learn stamping of a leather coaster with basket weave stamp. In second half of class, we will transfer a design on piece of leather for another project (if time permits).

Description: These classes are primarily focused on tooling leather.

DATE/TIMES: 4 Saturday sessions either 10AM to NOON, or 1PM to 3PM

 

1. Beginners: In this class you will learn what leather is and what to look for when picking it. You will learn how to transfer a design to leather, how to use the swivel knife and the 7 basic stamping tools to transform your design into a 3 dimensional appearance. You will learn hand sewing, lacing, dying and sealing leather, how to set rivets and spots and the use of some additional tools that can be of great use.

 

Requirements: Any level of leatherworking experience. You will get 2 coaster blanks and the use of tools while in store. You will be highly encouraged to purchase the 7 Basic Tool Set so you can complete homework assignments.

 

2. Bird Bag: This is a leather satchel with a tooled flap. This class will involve cutting, sewing, tooling and possibly dying leather.

Requirements: The beginner class is highly recommended. You need to bring your own leather and lace for the bag, purchasable from the store.

 

3. Gun Belt: You will be making the Black Canyon gun belt and holster. Riveting, dying, tooling, cutting and molding leather may be involved.
