Join us today and we’ll show you how to put together a beautiful western style gunslinger holster kit for your long barrel revolver! The kit is included in the class but you will need to bring your own tools if you plan to tool it. You are allowed to bring in your firearm to assure proper fit, however all safety measures will need to be adhered to. No ammunition/magazines in the building and please have your firearm’s Cylinder in the open position when you bring it in. All firearms will be safety checked when you arrive. Basic Leather, Sept. 17, 10 am-2 pm. Basic introduction to the various types of leathers – veg-tans, chrome-tans. Then using this knowledge, you will create a small card case using some basic sewing tools – groover, stitching chisel, needle, and thread. Class fee: $15.00

 

Advanced Tooling, Sept. 24, 9 am-3 pm. A well-known tattoo artist that has become well versed in advanced tooling techniques will help you take your tooling to the next level with this class. We will provide all the tools and supplies needed. Class fee: $40.00

 

Terraflex, Oct. 1, 9 am-12 pm. Learn thermoplastic forming and create a unique item. If you have a heat gun, please bring it with you. Class fee: $20.00

 

Coloring with Dyes – The Basics, Oct. 8, 9 am – 12 pm. Learn the differences between the types of dyes and finishes and how to apply them for a consistent & professional look.  We’ll also take time to work on advanced dye techniques to achieve an artistic look to your projects. Class fee: $10.00

 

Mask Making, Oct. 15, 9 am -12 pm. Using light weight veg-tan and a Styrofoam head, we will be making a mask, just in time for Halloween. We’ll also be coloring the masks using either dyes or paints, so bring your “wicked” and “wacky” ideas. Class fee: $15.00

 

Dog Leash and Collar, Oct. 22, 9 am – 1pm. In this class, you will be using leather straps to create a custom leash and collar. You will be able to stamp a name and then dye your creation. All materials will be provided. All hardware will be nickel. Please measure your pet’s neck so that you can create the right size collar. Class fee: $25.00

 

Basic Carving Class, Nov. 5, 10 am-2 pm. In this class, you will be learning how to use the basic seven tools (swivel knife, camouflage, pear shader, beveler, seeder, veiner, and backgrounder). We will take you through the process of carving project from a picture to a finished project. Class fee: $20.00

 

Double Loop Lacing, Nov. 12, 9 am-1 pm. In this class, we are going to teach you how to do the most popular lacing – the double loop lace. Then you’ll have no excuses to shy away from making anything you want because “you don’t know how to do that”! Class fee: $20.00

 

Reindeer, Nov. 19, 9 am-1 pm. It’s never too early to make something cute for the holidays. Join us to make your first reindeer. You will cut one out (with or without antlers), mold it to stand up by itself, and then apply a dye. You’ll then attach a loop to hang it with (or not). Then you can make another one. Class Cost: $25. Additional reindeer: $15.00

Messenger bags, satchels, and purses - This class will involve the skills necessary to create customized messenger bag with custom interiors and attachments. There will be a discussion on the uses of pouches/bags, the limitations of certain interior designs and other elements of certain pouches and bags, and the cultural meaning and use of certain designs of pouches. You will have all of the pieces necessary to create a bag in class, however due to limitations on time and certain designs you may not finish the pouch during class. ($50)

3rd, 10th, and 17th of September

Beginning Leather Crafts sequence - This class sequence is geared toward entry level leather tooling and carving. This sequence teaches basic tool control, depth control, how to properly case leather, swivel knife technique, geometric tool layout, dyeing technique, resisting technique, and basic traditional floral techniques. You will get to keep all the projects you do in the class. The first class is floral work and swivel knife work, and the second focuses on dyeing and coloring. (Free)

 

24th of September

Steampunk Cuffs and Armor - This class will involve the skills necessary to create customized Steampunk style cuffs and armor pieces with custom designs and optional attachments. There will be a discussion on the history that steampunk is based off of, the uses of armor during certain periods, the limitations of certain designs, other elements dealing with material choices, and the cultural meaning and use of certain designs. You will have all of the pieces necessary to create a cuff or a small piece of armor in class. ($35)

Our Basic Seven tooling class is taught every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.  This is a NO fee class but usually requires purchased supplies between $50-$100 dollars.  Please call (801)966-0144 to schedule a 1-2 hour appointment. 

We are also finishing our 5-6 week series on holster making, but please call to schedule as the spring classes fill quickly.  This is a $50 fee class which runs 5-6 weeks, where you learn to pattern, layout cut, and tool your rig from scratch.  It is from 10 am to approximately noon on Saturdays and will start the second quarter in about May.

Basic Leather Tooling Class -General Outline

 

This  class is  for the hobbyist  that wants to learn the basic skills to work with leather.    We will go through the whole process  of planning, designing and completing a leather bag of your dreams. Class will be from 10 am to 1pm. We will be  working with pre-finished leather ( i.e. Utility  Veggi-Tan and splits) .  These classes are design to be a standalone so you can come to the class that you interested in ( but you will get most by attending  all). .  This class is opened to all ages  from 8 and up (for younger students , please see the instructor) Drop in are always welcome  

 

Class #1 : Swivel Knife usage

Basket weave  is a very common 2-D stamp used in a lot of leather designs. In this class we will be working with different basket weave  and 3D stamps.

Learn how to set a Snaps, use a rivets, and install a Conchos into your project. We will also go over how to install a buckets into a straps or belts  and buckles.

Intro to Carving: This is your “on ramp” to leather crafting. We demonstrate and teach the basic technique of leather carving. You will learn to trace a project from paper and carve and tool it on leather we provide. Students must bring their own tools. Our 55510-00 Deluxe Kit is recommended if you’r new to the craft. Leather Skills Course.

 

 

Classes are held on Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 noon. We hold classes every month except; July, August and December. There are four classes in the course, described below. Class size is limited to 8 people on a first come, first served basis. Classes must be booked in advanced.

 

 

Class I.  Leather knowledge and stamping.      February 6th.

 

Various types of leather are shown and discussed. Students will learn tanning methods, grades/quality and typical usage.

Students learn how to prepare leather for stamping and use stamptools to put designs into leather.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 2. Leather carving.                                    February 13th.

 

An overview of how to carve designs into leather. Students will be instructed on the correct use of the swivel knife, basic 6 stamptools and related items to achieve successful leather carving.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 3. Colouring leather.                                February  20th.

 

Various types of colouring agents for leather will be show and discussed. Particular attention paid to dyes, stains and finishes. Students will learn application techniques and expected results.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 4. Methods of construction.                   February 27th.

 

Students will learn different methods of joining leather together. Emphasis on lacing, stitching plus associated tools to complete leather projects. Also includes rivets, snaps Chicago screws.

Basic Leather Craft Class

There will be 3 classes to complete basic leather crafting course.

Class 1: You will learn stamping of a leather coaster with basket weave stamp. Class will emphasize on basic leather knowledge that includes leather preparation and a proper and safe use of leather stamps to create designs. In second half of class, we will transfer a design on piece of leather for another project (if time permits).

Class 2: You will experience a bit more in carving leather techniques that starts with safe handling of swivel knife and with the help of various tools, you will be able to tool the project. You will complete the tooling part of our project in the same day.

Class 3: In this week, you have done stamping & tooling each project and now, will learn how to dye your project and will get to know more techniques to seal and finish your leather to a presentable state.
Again, if time permits and upon willingness to all students, you will be taught to various use of binding styles & few patterns of lacing.

Cost : You will buy & become our Gold/Elite members to participate in basic class. The membership is valid for 12 months and offers you huge discount on your purchases.

The class sizes average 6-8 students and for all ages 10+

Speciality Class : we also conduct specialized group project and requires minimum 6 students to organize such class. The cost of such class depends on projects and no. of participants.
